Thank you for your interest in Science Outreach in Southeastern Alberta. Our communities need science-savvy citizens to make sense of a rapidly changing world. Our employers need scientific literate employees to exercise their critical thinking and technical skills to further their goals. The Praxis Science Outreach Society aims to help Southeastern Albertans develop a love and understanding of science that will support them throughout their lives. Our vision is to foster a dynamic community inspired and empowered by knowledge and appreciation of science. We want to help people understand the power of science in order to give our region a competitive advantage and make Southeast Alberta a great (or “an even better”) place to live.

2023 SOUTHEAST ALBERTA KIWANIS REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR

The Regional Science Fair takes place in late March each year at Medicine Hat College. Students from schools across our region compete at the junior (grades 4-6), intermediate (grades 7-8) and senior (grades 9-12) level for certificates, participation prizes and special awards. Judging is provided by scientists, engineers and other professionals under the supervision of the Chief Judge. Each year up to five students at the intermediate and senior levels are selected to compete at the Canada Wide Science Fair as part of Team Alberta with all expenses paid including airfare, meals and accommodation for a week of competition, field trips and social opportunities with approximately 500 of the top young scientists in Canada. Two chaperones accompany our students. CWSF competitions are organized by Youth Science Canada and held in Ottawa, Edmonton, Windsor, Charlottetown, Fredericton and other major cities. The 2023 Canada Wide Science Fair will be held in Edmonton (May 14 to 19).

The 2023 Regional Science Fair will be both virtual and in-person (students can register beginning February 15 and compete in both fairs if they wish):

  • Virtual Fair (online): March 15 to 22 (register by March 11 – 6:00 PM)
  • In-Person Fair (Medicine Hat College): April 1 (register by March 29 – 6:00 PM)

Registration for both fairs will open February 15, 2023

Judges: if you are not available in Medicine Hat for in-person judging then please consider judging remotely for the virtual component. If you are available for both types of fairs and you are able to donate your time then you are welcome to judge at both.

The Regional Science Fair is supported by generous donations from individuals and from:
